Distinguishing features: Larger and faster growing than other similar species. It has a thick shell and a glossy yellow or brown coloring, and a flat umbo. It is also ypically found subtidally rather than intertidally.

Extended Description: Large, thick, glossy yellow-brown bivalve. Attaches to hard substrate using byssal threads, typically in deeper, colder, saltier waters. They are less suited to the intertidal, particularly the upper intertidal.
