Distinguishing features: Encrusting red algae, but not calcified. Fleshy or spongey to the touch. Grows in patches, synonymous with rocks or other hard surfaces.

Easily confused species and differentiation: Hildenbrandia rubra (HIRU)


Extended Description: Might be HIRU but sometimes the coloring is off in the field. If you’re not 100% certain its HIRU then use URFC. If you cant delineate color at all, resort to UFAC. Sometimes we mess up in the field and switch up the letters in which case UFRC
